On 9 November Nizhny started the new season in Euroleague social programme One Team. This year our club is going to support special kids left without parental care from boarding school #8. They’ll spend two months practicing with children from BC NN youth project, taking part in special workshops in order to prepare to the tournament among children houses.
Boarding school for orphans and children left without parental care, with disabilities, is a unique organization among all children houses and phenomenon in basketball life of Nizhny Novgorod region. Several years ago school managers and a physical education teacher initiated the foundation of basketball team and basketball classes for all the pupils, despite medical prohibitions. According to doctors recommendations special children with mental diseases accompanied by increased aggressiveness should avoid playing team sports. But in this case it turned out that basketball started influencing pupils in a positive way and helping them to socialize and overcome their diseases.
That’s why BC Nizhny Novgorod decided to make them a part of the club’s youth project “Pokolenie-NN” (Generation Nizhny Novgorod). The project holds a big tournament and educational program for youth teams and youth coaches from all our Nizhny Novgorod region. This season 23 teams will fight for The Cup from November to May.
The tournament opened on 9 November and One Team kids became its special guests. At first they took part in the warming-up held by One Team coach Marko Nestorovic along with young players from “Pokolenie-NN”. Then Marko showed special kids some physical exercises in BC NN gym. Besides all One Team participants helped Nizhny Novgorod managers in organizing the tournament. Some of them worked on broadcasting, others helped with statistics and sound. After the tournament the kids admitted that they wanted to work in sport management in future and perhaps connect their lives with basketball somehow. That’s how One Team and BC Nizhny Novgorod help kids socialize through practicing with ordinary kids and choose their future careers.
Next week One Team coach Marko Nestorovic and One Team Ambassador, BC NN captain, Maxim Grigoryev will organize a workshop in boarding school #8.
